Glenn Murcutt presented with UNSW Alumni Award

Built Environment alumnus Glenn Murcutt AO, DipArch 1962, HonDSc 1995, was presented with the Arts category prize at the 2011 UNSW Alumni Awards for Achievement.  Each year, the University recognises former students who have achieved distinction in their field of endeavour. 

Glenn Murcutt is regarded as Australia’s most influential and internationally acclaimed architect.  He was awarded the Order of Australia in 1996 and has received more than 25 Australian architectural awards, including the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal.  International awards include the Pritzker Prize in 2002 and the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal Award in 2009.  Glenn was made a Member of the Pritzker Prize Jury in 2010, alongside Peter Palumbo, Carlos Jimenez and Renzo Piano.

Glenn holds a professorship at UNSW Built Environment and teaches third-year architect design studios. He has also held teaching positions at Yale University, UCLA, Helsinki University of Technology, School of Architecture Aarhus, Denmark and many others.  He has created an impressive portfolio of environmentally conscious buildings and shares his vision with countless students around the world. 

Glenn’s signature buildings include the Marika-Alderton House (East Arnhem Land), the Marie Short Farm House (NSW), the Magney House (Bingie Bingie, NSW) and the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre (Riversdale, NSW), in collaboration with Wendy Lewin and Reg Lark.  Glenn’s work of undeniable excellence is now being internationally recognised as a significant national culture.  It is for this outstanding contribution to his profession and community he has been honoured with the UNSW Alumni Award for Achievement (Arts).
