What is advanced standing?

Sometimes called ‘credit transfer’, advanced standing is recognition of prior study at a university or TAFE. Students applying for advanced standing must supply original or certified copies of academic transcripts from previous tertiary study.
Previous study in a related area may mean you are given credit for some core (compulsory) courses and therefore you may not need to enrol in the standard first year program. In some instances you may need to meet with the Discipline Director for your program to discuss any advanced standing.

That is why attendance at the advanced standing advisory day is recommended for students with previous study in Built Environment discipline areas.

Students who have completed previous tertiary studies in an unrelated field (such as arts, science, medicine or law) do not need to attend the Advanced Standing Advisory Day. You may still apply for Advanced Standing, but you can do this at any time at the Built Environment Student Centre before the start of semester. The credit granted will be for general education and open elective rather than core courses.

Please contact the BE Student Centre for more information.
