Program Details
The Masters by Research is a research degree comprising 96 Units of Credit. While the degree is awarded on the basis of a written thesis, some concurrent coursework studies in research methods and other areas relevant to the chosen topic may be required depending on individual cases. The aims of such concurrent coursework are to enhance students' knowledge in the chosen field of research.

Supervision and Academic Support
UNSW Built Environment academic staff is a highly qualified and experienced group of academics from across a wide range of built environment disciplines who provide excellent academic support and supervision to research students.
The major disciplines represented are architecture, construction management, industrial design, interior architecture, landscape architecture, property development and management, sustainable development, urban design and urban planning.
A high quality, collaborative research community is created through staff-student interaction and excellent support facilities. Strong research support is provided by UNSW Built Environment to students including guidance on research methods, writing, thesis preparation, and completion. Regular seminars aimed at developing research skills are held. A close relationship is maintained with the UNSW Graduate Research School to address student needs on an ongoing basis.
Entry Requirements
As a general guide, the minimum requirement for a Postgraduate Research Degree (PhD, Master by Research or Master of Philosophy) within UNSW Built Environment is an appropriate undergraduate degree, usually at honours level, in a field represented within UNSW Built Environment, or another relevant discipline.
