Masters by Research

UNSW Built Environment (BE) offers a suite of postgraduate research degrees in the broad field of built environment. It is the largest faculty of its kind in Australia by enrolment and range of disciplines offered. The BE is committed to research excellence. We highly value our postgraduate research students and demonstrate this by fostering a collaborative and cross-disciplinary research community amongst students and academics.

Currently there are 110 research students enrolled full and part-time. They are working on diverse topics such as: architecture, interior architecture, urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, industrial design, construction/project management, property and sustainable development. Research publications and grants from postgraduate research students comprise 20 percent of the overall research quantum in the faculty. Students are encouraged and financially supported to present their work at peer-reviewed and ranked conferences during their candidature.

Our student population is diverse. As well as local students, 21 countries are represented in our student cohort. The BE boasts a rich cultural and interdisciplinary learning environment. UNSW BE is committed to providing quality support to research students in terms of supervision, faculty and finance (including scholarship opportunities).
