Research

Research in the Faculty of Built Environment is geared towards designing, delivering and managing the 21st century city.  Our objective is to create a faculty in which research, learning and teaching of the highest standard can flourish contribute to a sustainable and valued global built environment.

We do this by fostering a collegial, constructive, supportive and rigorous research culture which embraces and values the diversity of research and engenders a sense of collective responsibility for the faculty's research performance.

Research Areas

Research at Built Environment focuses on the design, development and management of the twenty-first century city. Evidence from the past and the present can better inform our decisions about the future. The Faculty encourages interdisciplinary research that brings staff and students together in a stimulating and supportive environment.

In particular, a mix of research areas in the built environment disciplines are provided:

  • Design - Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture and Industrial Design
  • Environment and Sustainability - Urban Planning, Resource Management, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Sustainable Development
  • History and Theory - Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture
  • Property Development and Construction Project Management - Building and Construction Management, Real Estate, Sustainable Development, Facility Management
  • Contemporary City Studies- Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Urban Policy, Sustainable Development
