Message from the Dean

Welcome to Issue 6 of our Alumni Newsletter series.  I would like begin by congratulating our alumni, staff and students who have been recognised this year at the Australia Day and Queen's Birthday honours, industry awards and prize ceremonies.

We are celebrating the 40 Year Anniversary of our Landscape Architecture program and will be hosting an event Friday 22 August. It will be an opportunity for all LandArch alumni and friends to join us for the celebration and reconnect on campus.

It is with sadness I inform you of the passing of Associate Professor Elias Duek-Cohen earlier this year. Elias was a well-respected lecturer and colleague and I am sure there are many of you who remember him fondly. He will always be connected to BE through the Elias Duek-Cohen Award in Urban Design which was presented at the Awards and Prizes Ceremony in April.

For more on your fellow alumni and to share your story, visit us at www.be.unsw.edu.au/alumni/information

Best regards,
Professor Alec Tzannes
Dean, UNSW Built Environment

BE Alumni in New York

City Futures researcher Dr Hazel EasthopeAlumni Mitch Kidd (BBCM 2005) and Scott Lumby (BBCM 2005) are finding great success in New York’s building boom. They’ve a built strong an impressive portfolio of high calibre clients from fortune 500 CEO’s, leaders in art & fashion and exclusive central park residences. Mitch founded Wellbuilt Company in 2009 and Scott came on board last year.  In the company's first year, the business managed to secure a lucrative contract in a high profile building in Manhattan - a job that that helped establish a lot of respect for the firm in the city.  For more on Mitch, see our Profiles at www.be.unsw.edu.au/alumni/profiles
