About

Planning is a complex and dynamic activity. It requires a broad understanding of environmental, economic, cultural, social, design, political and legal theories, and a solid grounding in how these theories can be drawn on to improve the qualities of our living and working environments.

As a planner you must consider and attempt to reconcile all the factors that influence the culture, appearance and the functionality of human space. Your primary focus may be on management, development or conservation, however the underlying objectives of your career will be to shape space so it meets human needs and desires in an environmentally sensitive way. Students of the Bachelor of Planning (BPlan) Program learn that planning the built environment is a complex, dynamic activity requiring a broad-ranging understanding of political, economic, cultural, design, environmental and legal issues.

The BPlan degree at UNSW provides graduates with a wealth of interdisciplinary knowledge and the necessary vocational skills to practice planning in today's complex world.
