About

The Urban Planning and Policy sub-program brings together the ‘urban’ aspects of current activity within the original City Futures team. This includes work on metropolitan planning, urban and suburban renewal, housing markets and planning, high density living and the Compact City, and other aspects of urban policy and practice. As would be expected, strong crossovers exist with the housing sub-program, and this will inevitably remain.

This sub-program builds upon ARC research undertaken on implementation of Metro strategies, delivering socially sustainable urban renewal and incremental suburban change through the knockdown rebuild process in Australian Cities. Furthermore, much of the AHURI research undertaken by the Centre has an explicit urban/planning focus, and this is expected to continue and extend further as AHURI’s urban research program evolves. Key elements of the AHURI Multi-Year Research Program will also involve input from this sub-program.
