Q&A with Griffen Lim
Partner at Make Architects
Graduation year: 2009
Q. Tell us a little about your current role.
I am a Partner at Make, an international, award-winning architecture practice with one purpose: to design the best buildings, places and spaces in the world. I work on projects across sectors, varying from hotels, retail spaces, workplace, residential & multi-residential interiors. I also work globally, originally started at Make London, I recently relocated to the Sydney studio, and I’ve also been working on projects in Asia alongside the Hong Kong studio.
Q. How did your degree prepare you for the workforce?
The course shaped me to become an all-rounder designer, enabling me to design across sectors with a strong set of technical skills. The projects presented during the degree also encourages me to establish a unique individual character while having the ability to work collaboratively and holistically by showing respect for all design disciplines in a non-hierarchical way.
Q. What is the most valuable thing you took away from your time at UNSW?
To design with a strong architectural concept from macro to micro, seamlessly integrating the interiors into a holistic design concept.
Q. Do you have any advice for current Built Environment students?
Work hard & always be willing to learn.
Never let yourself get too comfortable, push yourself and seek new challenges.
