Program Structure

Term Two - Capstone Research

The capstone research course will focus on design research and design research methods and will prepare you for the capstone project in the following term. You will develop and apply research knowledge and skills, as you produce a substantive design research report based upon an agreed research topic. The design research report will cover problem and/or opportunity identification, data gathering, synthesis and analysis of information and research results. It will conclude with a design brief, and proposals to guide your capstone project in term 2. In parallel with the research focus, there will be studio activities offering different problem-solving approaches and providing a means for students to improve and perfect their design process.

Term Two - Capstone Project

This capstone studio course will enable you to combine accumulated Industrial Design skills and knowledge gained during your four years at UNSW. The work produced for this course will represent the culmination of your studies and provide you an opportunity to demonstrate capabilities as an emerging design professional. This course builds upon your research undertaken in the previous term by providing the foundation for your designated design project.

Upon successful completion of this capstone studio course, you will present a well-planned Industrial Design project within the constraints of a ‘real world’ framework of commercial practice.
