On May 30th we celebrated our students’ success with an event that saw 160 postgraduate and undergraduate students gather in the Red Centre gallery to be addressed Dean, Professor Alec Tzannes.

The Dean’s Merit List honors undergraduate students who had a WAM of 80 or above and postgraduate students who were in the top 5% of the cohort (based on their WAM).

254 undergraduate students and 56 postgraduates were successful in meeting these criteria, a clear indication of the caliber of our students and their dedication to study.

During the drinks reception Professor Tzannes paid tribute to the students’ academic achievements, giving a special acknowledgement to those who had made the list in both semesters and the students awarded the Dean’s Merit List prize.

For Semester 1 the prize was awarded to Matthew O'Brien with a WAM of 92.667, and for Semester 2, Mark Eldridge, with a WAM of 93.5; both were congratulated by their peers and academic staff for this outstanding effort.

Two postgraduate research students were also recognized, Laura Crommelin who was recently awarded the Fulbright postgraduate scholarship and Andrea Wechsler who was recently selected from across the University to represent UNSW as a finalist in the NSW International Student of the Year Award.

Academic staff were well represented at the event and commended for their continued commitment and efforts in teaching and mentoring. It was noted that their efforts are invaluable in developing the levels of excellence reflected in our students’ marks and professionalism.

Professor Tzannes reflected on the occasion by stating “I am both impressed and greatly encouraged by what I see as the next group of architects and designers, planners, project managers and allied professionals pursuing careers in Built Environment fields.  It’s in good hands”.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the event.
