Exploration of Form

Nimat Mistry, First Year Computational Design
Cristina Ramos Jaime, Course Convenor

The 1st year Computational Design Studio 1 course introduces students to the relationships between mathematics and geometry to develop parametric definitions of 3D forms. The rationalisation of complex geometries to enable the digital fabrication of all manner of objects, facades, and structures is fast-becoming a key competency in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. The model of a thin-shell structure by architect Felix Candela shown here features a rationalised geometry of flat surfaces and is laser-cut from box board.
