Augmented Reality Sandbox

Xbox Kinect, projector, System 76 & sand

The augmented reality (AR) sandbox is a system of sensors for real time 3D scanning, light projection and geographic information system (GIS) software that allows people to dynamically interact with and modify a virtual/physical landscape topography. The AR Sandbox is a useful tool for simulating and exploring environmental conditions such as stormwater runoff, erosion, and flood events that can occur due to new buildings and roads to better inform measures of control. Data from these interactions can also be captured and used for graphics, animations, and digital fabrication production.
