Domestic use of urban public space - for food preparation
This ID Honours research stream is about preparing food in public.
The Barbeque is an icon of the Australian way of life. Cooking in public is facilitated in public parks, but why not urban plazas and squares? The BBQ facilities cater chiefly to meat preparation but as a society we are eating a much more diverse range of diets not only due to cultural and religious practices. Public cooking is limited to the BBQ, there is scope to look at other options like a public microwave or an induction hotplate. Technical limitations can't be the reason this is not in place, so what is the hold up?
