Construction sites as theatre
This ID Honours research stream is about Construction Sites. Construction Sites are temporary, but they are a permanent feature of urban life! While they are very well conceived internally, in regards to safety and construction management issues, for the external world they leave much to be desired.
Providing new infrastructure can send existing business broke while the affected environment is disrupted, and the site becomes a point of contention.
How can construction sites add to the urban fabric rather than being a negative friction point?
Can construction be seen as a communication exercise that engagingly informs passersby through clever use of hoardings and technology, contributing towards the urban fabric during the process of building. Construction sites are a permanent fixture of our cities; therefore, they need to pay more attention to how they are perceived on the outside. How can they become something worth taking a detour for?
