Substrate Formed Ceramic Cladding

Substrate formed ceramic cladding’ is the title of Robert Barnstone’s thesis in the area of architectural science and technology.

The research concerns the feasibility of forming complex thin-shelled ceramic shapes for building cladding and envelopes via a process of coating a paper substrate with clay to make the desired form.
Barnstone, under the supervision of Dr Francesco Fiorito and Dr Philip Oldfield, is investigating various design options for creating structural honeycomb matrix cores in order to make a stressed skin panel capable of heat exchange in ceramic.
