How has the changing 'skill' profile of overseas migrants affected housing demand in Sydney, 2006-2016?

Sukanya Rupa Ganguli is conducting research under the supervision of Professor Bill Randolph and Professor Hal Pawson that examines the labour force and housing outcomes of migrant households in Sydney over a recent 10-year period.

Rupa’s thesis, ‘How has the changing 'skill' profile of overseas migrants affected housing demand in Sydney, 2006-2016?’, focuses on the housing market implications of the shift towards ‘skilled’ migration and the concentration of these migrants in rental tenure and high-density housing across the city. The aim of the research is to identify rental market disadvantage among the recent wave of immigrants, by analysing differences in income, wealth, ‘human capital’ and labour market characteristics of employed workers, with a focus on Asian born immigrants.
