Arlene Segal presently holds an Adjunct Senior Lecturer post at the University of New South Wales. As a Senior Lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate urban design for thirteen years she has been instrumental in establishing the teaching of urban design as a distinct but integrated part of built environment education. She has shared her expertise in tertiary teaching in urban design with other universities where the techniques and transformations she promotes have become recognised as industry-leading.

Her philosophy is centred on a multidisciplinary approach to urban design that embraces sustainability with regards to human habitat and urban settlement patterns. She presents at international conferences in design education and is highly regarded for the papers and research she has published.
