Bio: 

Mohammad Mojtahedi is a Senior Lecturer and Program Coordinator of Master of Construction Project Management (MCPM) at Faculty of Built Environment. He completed his PhD in the School of Civil Engineering at The University of Sydney in 2014. He has applied his knowledge in disaster risk management and resiliency in buildings and infrastructure. He has currently focused on research about temporary spaces and camps for displaced populations and refugees using a lean philosophy. This research has focused on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 developed by United Nation Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNSIDR). He has professional industry experience in project planning and management of large-scale and complex infrastructure. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from Project Management Institute (PMI). He has developed a new capstone course and a digitalised flipped classroom with blended learning principles aligned with UNSW2025 Strategy.

Research Activities: 

Topic 1: Disaster Risk Management in Buildings and Infrastructure

Living in a changing environment is one of the most important challenges facing Australia. Mohammad has focused on climate change adaptation, disaster risk management and construction management research topics to identify strategies to develop sustainable and resilient built environments that can all thrive in a changing environment. His research interest covers the following topics:

  • Managing post-disaster recovery and reconstruction projects
  • Reducing risks in the built environment
  • Assessment of critical infrastructure
  • Natural disaster standards for National Construction Code (NCC)

Topic 2: Building Construction Management and Project Planning

Construction project management is a multidisciplinary area and his research has focused on the following topics:

  • Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment
  • Mathematical modelling and optimisation
  • Decision-making methods and techniques
  • Lean construction
  • Strategic construction management
  • Implementation an effective EPMO in construction organisations
