Dr Gudes has a strong background in GIS, spatial analysis with the intersection of urban planning, and development of scenario planning tools.

My Research Supervision

Currently, I am supervising the following students:

  • Scientia PhD student (Kazi Mohammad Zillur Rahman) at UNSW. His work entitled: Wastewater indicators of antibiotic resistance in the community’ aims to establish the prevalence and trends in Antimicrobial Resistance in the community using sewage wastewater. As part of this work, I assist him in developing a model of antibiotic resistance in the community by spatially mapped the information on antibiotics and resistance across the city and the state of NSW.

  • Phd student Parisa zare, her work is titled: Built Environment, the Key Element in Choosing to Cycle in Cities". She wants to understand what specific characteristics of the built environment can affect cycling in cities and how we can evaluate these characteristics by big data sources. The final part of this project is determining the economic benefits of cycling in the health and socio-economic realm.

  • PhD student (Weijia Liu) at UNSW. Her work entitled ‘Wastewater surveillance for monitoring trends of antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance: urban wastewater epidemiology’ aims to establish a viable wastewater epidemiology approach as a novel surveillance strategy to track antibiotic residual as a proxy for real-time antibiotic use/prescribing practices. As part of this work, I assist her to visualise the consumption of antibiotic usage across Sydney by spatially mapping the information in different scales and latitudes. This project is in collaboration with Sydney Water and the University of Queensland.

  • PhD student Roula Zougheib has completed milestone two of her PhD research in August 2020. Her work's main aim is to utilise spatial technology to assess “the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown and Social Distances on Children Outdoor Active Mobility Behaviour”. The research output is targeted to inform health intervention and planning by identifying vulnerable children most at risk during the current pandemic. The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) of ArcGIS Pro and R statistical software for analysis is expected to reveal the determinates of children active behaviour in the current health crisis or the future.
