Dr Yat Lam

Senior Lecturer
Construction Management and Property, Construction Project Management, Property and Development

PhD, MA, BSc, FRICS, MIWFM, CIHCM

Chartered Surveyor and Housing Manager

I specialise in performance assessment, monitoring and creating performance prediction models for the procurement of construction consultants and service providers. I am particularly interested in investigating what selection criteria should be considered when assessing the performance outcomes of consultants in relation to sustainable design, construction, and property management of buildings.

My main aim is to combine my key areas (building construction, property and facilities management; performance management; project and contract management) to create a sustainable procurement approach to selecting construction consultants. This approach is specifically designed to assess the performance-influencing factors in order to predict and optimise the project’s sustainable outcomes in relation to economic, environmental, social, and functional sustainable values.

My research informs my teaching and is important because it creates insights and opportunities to reduce global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It also helps ensure the wellbeing of stakeholders, as well as minimum life cycle cost and building functionality. In addition, it contributes to government policy on promoting sustainability within the construction and built environment professions.
