The Sydney Urban Lab is an intensive interdisciplinary studio that explores design solutions to some of the critical urban challenges we face in our city. Each year, the lab is led by an internationally renowned academic or practitioner, exposing students to diverse pedagogies and ideas from around the world. The aim is to give students an international experience without leaving the city.

At UNSW, we're known for interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Students participating in the Sydney Urban Lab come from many of our different programs including architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, city planning and computational design.

The Bestiary

The Sydney Urban lab and the Bestiary Project explores human to animal relationships in an urban context. The studio looked at how we can better incubate and accommodate diverse animal species within cities.

Building communities

The Sydney Urban Lab explored the capacity of an area under pressure (between Sydenham, Marrickville and Tempe) to increase residential densities with the aim to create new communities that mix and add to what already exists.
